We did not expect to love Florida as much as we did....so much that we drove back to Florida. YES, 18 hours from South Texas to first hit Universal Studios and then onto the Florida Keys for five wonderful weeks. We really loved every bit of the Keys. We stayed at Sunshine Key Resort, which is right after the 7 mile bridge between Marathon and Big Pine Key. We had a great spot right next to the marina. (The day we pulled in I sadly watched my Bills lose to KC in case you were wondering.)
The boys loved the RV resort because it had a basketball court, pickleball courts, a pool, cornhole, and plenty of pavement to ripstik around. On most days, the boys worked through their school lessons outside. This was a blessing. Sandie loved it here because she had so many friends to play with including her new BFFs Kiya and Goldie. I loved the farmers market they had every Friday and the lovely friends we were blessed to meet. We marveled over the manatees that were frequent visitors at the marina. We spent days at beautiful beaches including Sombrero Beach, Bahia Honda State Park, and Fort Zachary State Park. Steve just loved being on the water and dreams of having a vacation place here in the winter, of course, along with a boat. We even ventured to Key West a few times, although we stayed away from any of the busy areas (that is hard to do). We did however get to visit President Truman’s Little White House. Steve also took us to NAS Key West where he flew in for many detachments...(how I never was invited, is the big question:). All in all, we fell in love with the beauty here. It truly is stunning. We already miss it....
The highlight of the trip was the boys getting their PADI certification! They studied so hard for the exams and it sure paid off. I was able to go and watch them dive. They are amazing... I was so impressed. They were incredibly confident. They absolutely love scuba diving. I think this might have made up for not being in Colorado skiing this month:).
